And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sâbirin (the patient ones, etc.).Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allâh we belong and truly, to Him we shall return. They are those on whom are the Salawât (i.e. blessings, etc.) (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided-ones. In in effort to do our small share in helping the muslims who are being tested with the aftermath of hurricane katrina, this site will post any details for those looking for a relative in that affected region, or who would like to make their family members aware that they are safe and their current location.

We will also collect donations on behalf of those who will need personal hygiene/toiletries, clothing, diapers, other baby/children items, food, Qur'aans, other islamic books, and other things of a smaller nature. FEMMA has a new emergency call center in PG Plaza in Hyattsville MD near College Park. They need 12,000 people to work 12 hour shifts of simply logging the Hurricane victim’s claims of the location and value of their destroyed homes.

Pay: $15.00 & $22.00 hour for overtime.

Message from Dar al Kitab wal Hikmah (barakallahu feekum they have collected and distributed for Muslims and Muslim families displaced by the hurricane $10,099.23)::

At this time I would like to encourage anyone who is considering to donate, to contact us via e-mail at admin@dkh-islam.com, but do not send any more unless you had previously intended to do so. If you have raised money and merely not sent it to us yet, then you may do so, may Allah reward you. As for others who would themselves like to donated now, I would like to encourage that they seek a means of delivering the aid other than Dar al-Kitab wal-Hikmah.

This is because we are very much short handed these days, and it would be too difficult for myself to continue with this work, and my objective of making everyone aware of this plight has been fulfilled, now that so many other Islamic relief organizations are involved

Supplies Needed 

Below are current locations taking supplies for the displaced families. Please note needed items and shipping locations. We will update often. If you know of others who are collecting items for the muslims affected by the hurricane anywhere in the USA, and need help getting those materials please email us asap. We are trying to compile a list of cities that have taken in muslims and the contact details, so aid can be sought on their behalf insha'allah.

You can ship any of the requested items directly to the addresses. In an email received from Baton Rouge, it was stated, "We are getting our regular postal mails delivery. We people in Baton Rouge are in normal condition except the fact that our population became doubled."

Of course San Antonio was not affected, so no problems getting deliveries there, the city is receiving displaced families.

Again, we are sending items in bulk, so you can also contribute directly to Al Maun (see donate button above) and we will order and ship requested items online insha'allah.

Another option is to purchase a Walmart Gift Card.  Cards purchased can be used @ all SAM'S CLUB, Wal-Mart and NeighborHood Markets, as well as samsclub.com and walmart.com This would save on shipping products and allow those who are helping, to purchase the specific needs of the day. Plus these cards are reloadable, and since the people will be in need for some time, this is a viable option. You should call or email to get the name of person authorized to make purchases. This information would also be needed if you decide to reload funds on card. When purchasing, you have an option to leave a message. You can include a name and email contact, so recipient will know who sent card, insha'allah.

Update 10/06/05 The imaam states that there are about 20 brothers staying at the masjid and many other families in need. They have been able to put up some families in apartments, but these families only have some basic bedding and cookware and not much of anything else, in addition to needing help paying the rent.

He is especially concerned about a married brother with seven children. Their house was demolished.

Most of the brothers are married, and were supporting their families overseas, and have no source of income. Most have no id and this has made it difficult to receive assistance. Also the relief organizationsare moving rather slowly in that area he said.

Due to the number of people currently staying in the masjid, they had to unhook the pc, so only contact is by phone. He would like for brothers to come down and help and give encouragement to the people insha'allah.

Please contact the imam direct to see what you can do to help ease thier situation insha'allah t'ala.

There are also about 7 young people (between the ages of 13-22) who could use a good word from someone, And the women who may not know where their husbands are, or are waiting to be re-united with their children.

Send a kind word, encourage them upon sabr. remind them to not despair, as our Rabb is the Sustainer. Please write or send a card and see what good you can do for the price of a stamp.
